The NACCFI - Child Forensic Interview Structure
The Rational of the NACCFI Forensic Interview Structure:
The rational for the development of a child-centered approach is anchored on the premise that a child’s willingness and competency to participate in the interview is greatly enhanced when the interview strategy is grounded on an informed understanding of the known facts, the child’s safety, emotional, cognitive, and developmental abilities. The 2014 NACCFI child forensic interview structure is a training structure, part of a greater 40 hour online certificate training course.
The 2014 NACCFI forensic interview model not only fosters effective interviewing but also fosters training to ensure that professionals are prudent, active listeners, patient, and capable of maintaining unbiased objectivity and neutrality.
Properly trained and credentialed professionals provide child victims and the public with reasonable assurances of credibility, objectivity, and unbiased professionalism. At the center of the child centered approach is the need for a coordinated community response by a multi-disciplinary team of professionals and trusted members of the child’s family when applicable.
The Empirical Evidence:
The Evidence-Centered Design (ECD) is a construct used in the development of this evidence-based competency training curriculum. This NACCFI child forensic interview structure/model was designed in accordance with the universally accepted Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing, developed jointly by the: American Education Research Association (AERA), the American Psychological Association (APA) and the National Council on Measurements in Education (NCME).
